250+ Eco Club In-Charges trained under Green School Programme
Ferozepur, September 2, 2026: A one-day training workshop for more than 250 Eco Club in-charges from Middle, High, Senior Secondary, Government-aided and Private Schools of Ferozepur district was organised under the Green School Programme at Dev Samaj College for Women. More than 250 Eco Club in-charges participated enthusiastically and pledged to make environmental conservation an important part of school education.
The workshop was held under the guidance of District Education Officer (Secondary Education) Munila Arora and Deputy District Education Officer (Secondary Education) Dr Satinder Singh, in accordance with the directions of the Punjab School Education Department.
The objective was to sensitise teachers and students towards conservation and judicious use of water, energy, waste and other natural resources through the Green School Audit.
College Principal Dr Sangeeta welcomed the chief guest, officials and teachers and said environmental protection was one of the biggest needs of the present time. She stressed the role of educational institutions in developing love, sensitivity and responsibility towards nature among students.
DEO Munila Arora urged teachers to play a leading role in promoting environmental conservation. She said teachers were among the most influential guides for students and called upon schools to take practical steps such as reducing single-use plastic, conserving water and energy, managing waste properly and making school campuses greener.
Dr Satinder Singh said environmental protection should become an integral part of everyday life rather than remaining merely a subject of study. He encouraged schools to make Eco Clubs centres of environmental activities and involve students in practical and project-based initiatives.
During the technical session, resource persons Gurpreet Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Dr Mokshi, Head of Zoology Department, and Dr Ramneek Kaur, Eco Club In-charge, explained the Green School Programme and audit process under the supervision of District EEP Coordinator Umesh Kumar, Headmaster.
Participants were briefed about the six major audit areas—water, energy, waste, air, land and food—and were given practical guidance on collecting data and submitting reports through the Green School Audit portal.
Government Senior Secondary School Boys, Makhu, and Government High School, Sharihn Wala Brar, which secured the ‘Green’ category under the Green School Programme Audit-2025, were honoured with appreciation certificates and mementoes.
