Floods affect 24 districts in Uttar Pradesh amid heavy rainfall

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), September 6, 2026: Heavy rainfall and the release of water from barrages have triggered flood-like conditions across 24 districts of Uttar Pradesh, with several rivers continuing to flow above danger levels.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is in Chitrakoot district to review the flood situation and ongoing rescue and relief operations.
The Ganga is flowing above the danger mark in Badaun, Ghazipur and Ballia, while it has reached close to the danger level in Farrukhabad. The Sharda River has also crossed the danger mark in Lakhimpur Kheri and Barabanki, while the Ghaghra River is above the danger level in Ayodhya and Turtipar in Ballia.
Meanwhile, the Yamuna River continues to rise in Rajapur, Chitrakoot, raising concerns over further flooding in low-lying areas.
On Saturday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas along the Varuna River in Varanasi. He also visited a flood relief camp, interacted with affected residents and distributed relief material.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in eastern Uttar Pradesh over the next four days, while western parts of the state are expected to receive heavy rain over the next two days.
Authorities are closely monitoring river levels and the flood situation as continued rainfall could worsen conditions in vulnerable areas.
