Delhi: Six officers suspended after Satya Niketan building collapse that killed seven

New Delhi, September 7, 2026: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has suspended five senior officials following the collapse of a four-storey paying guest (PG) building in the Satya Niketan area, an incident that claimed at least seven lives on Sunday afternoon.
The action was taken with immediate effect under disciplinary proceedings as authorities intensified accountability measures after the tragedy.
The suspended officials belong to the MCD’s South Zone and include Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar, Superintendent Engineer Ranveer Singh, Executive Engineer (Building) Lalit Kumar Goel, Assistant Engineer Sunil Chauhan and Junior Engineer Ashish Kumar.
According to official orders, the officers will receive subsistence allowance in accordance with service rules during the period of suspension.
The building collapse has raised serious questions over structural safety, monitoring mechanisms and enforcement of building regulations in the national capital. Rescue and relief operations continued at the site, while authorities launched an investigation into the causes behind the incident.
The MCD’s decision to suspend the officials is being viewed as a major administrative action as investigations continue into one of the deadliest building accidents in Delhi in recent times.
