After Nitin Nabin’s anti-drug call, Punjab BJP announces ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ across Punjab from Sept 18

Chandigarh, September 12, 2026: The Punjab BJP has announced a statewide campaign against drug abuse, days after party national president Nitin Nabin said the BJP would launch a public movement against drugs and make the issue a key part of its campaign for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
The ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatras’, to be held under the slogan ‘Bhajpa Da Naara, Nasha Mukauna Saara’, will begin on September 18 and cover all 117 Assembly constituencies in four phases. The campaign will conclude in Jalandhar on September 30.
Nabin had said that the BJP would take up the drug menace, corruption and what he described as “anarchy” in Punjab as major issues in the electoral battle. He had also called for a broad public movement against drugs in the state.
Following Nabin’s announcement, Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon announced the statewide yatras at a press conference in Chandigarh.
Dhillon said Nabin would flag off the first yatra on September 18 from Ekta Sthal, Madhopur, in Pathankot district.
The Punjab BJP said the campaign would focus on three major issues confronting the state — the growing drug menace, deteriorating law and order and corruption in governance.
Dhillon said the campaign would go beyond anti-drug awareness and seek to turn the fight against drug abuse into a mass public movement. He said the BJP would also highlight the impact of drugs on Punjab’s society, culture, values and identity.
BJP national vice-president Manpreet Badal said the drug menace was not only a human tragedy but also a matter of national security.
Former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar and former state president and MLA Ashwani Sharma also addressed the press conference.
The announcement marks a clear follow-up to Nabin’s call for a statewide public movement against drugs and signals that the BJP plans to make the issue a central part of its Punjab election campaign.
