Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Kishtwar, Shagun Parihar, met Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum highlighting a range of demands concerning the development and welfare of the Kishtwar Assembly constituency.
During the meeting, Parihar apprised the Union Minister of various issues requiring the attention of the Central Government and sought appropriate intervention for their early resolution. The memorandum focused on matters related to the constituency and the need to accelerate development initiatives for the people of Kishtwar.
The meeting assumes significance as Kishtwar, located in the strategically important Chenab Valley region of Jammu and Kashmir, has considerable development potential as well as several infrastructure and connectivity-related challenges.
Youngest Winner in 2024 J&K Assembly Polls
Shagun Parihar, a BJP leader, has been serving as a Member of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly since 2024, representing the Kishtwar Assembly constituency. At the age of 29, she emerged as the youngest winner in the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.
Her political journey has been marked by personal tragedy and remarkable resilience. In 2018, her father Ajit Parihar, a BJP functionary, and her uncle Anil Parihar were killed by terrorists, just days before the Panchayat elections.
Despite the tragedy, Shagun Parihar continued her education and remained committed to public life. At the time of her election to the Legislative Assembly, she was also pursuing her PhD, reflecting her academic commitment alongside her political responsibilities.
Focus on Kishtwar Development
The meeting with Union Minister Jitendra Singh provided the BJP MLA an opportunity to put forward constituency-specific concerns at the Centre. The submission of the memorandum is being seen as part of her efforts to seek greater governmental attention towards developmental requirements and public issues in Kishtwar.
