Kishau Deal Boosts Haryana: CM Saini says state to get 1,280 cusecs, hits out at Punjab CM Mann

Chandigarh, September 15, 2026: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday termed the agreement on the long-pending Kishau Multipurpose Project a “significant achievement” for Haryana, saying the project had been revived through dialogue, cooperation and consensus among the participating states.
Saini thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil for their efforts to build consensus among the states and expedite the project.
“The initiative and proactive efforts of the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister paved the way for consensus on this issue, which had been pending for years,” Saini said. He also thanked Patil for coordinating with the states and concerned departments to move the project forward.
The Chief Minister said Haryana, which has a 48 per cent share in the Yamuna, would benefit from the increased availability of water following the implementation of the project.
He said the Renuka Ji and Lakhwar projects were already under construction and work on the Kishau project would also commence soon.
According to Saini, Haryana's combined water share from the three projects would be around 1,143 million cubic metres (MCM). He said the three projects together would increase water availability by 2,676 cusecs, of which Haryana's share would be 1,280 cusecs.
“This water is extremely important not only for the present requirements of Haryana but also for meeting the water needs of future generations,” Saini said.
The Chief Minister also hit out at Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann during his interaction with the media. Saini alleged that Mann had disrespected the turban and said he should visit Sri Akal Takht Sahib and apologise.
