Rajoana Writes Letter to PM Modi from Jail, Seeks Early Decision on Mercy Plea: ‘I Have Been Incarcerated for 31 Years’
Patiala, September 17, 2026: Balwant Singh Rajoana, who is lodged in Patiala Central Jail in connection with the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh and is facing a death sentence, has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Through the letter, Rajoana has urged the government to take an early final decision on his mercy petition, which has been pending for a long time.
Appealing to the Prime Minister, Rajoana has made it clear that the government should take a decision on his mercy plea without any further delay, even if the decision is to uphold his death sentence. He has highlighted that he has remained incarcerated for the past 31 years and has sought a final resolution to his long-pending plea.
