Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), September 19, 2026: Project Cheetah marked a significant milestone with the birth of four cheetah cubs at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh, just a day after the flagship conservation programme completed four years. The cubs were born to KGP12, an Indian-born female cheetah, marking another development in India's efforts to establish a viable cheetah population.
Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav described the birth as a symbol of hope and resilience for cheetah conservation in India.
Yadav congratulated the Kuno National Park and Project Cheetah teams on the development, which comes as the programme completes four years.
Project Cheetah was launched with the objective of restoring cheetahs to India after the species was declared extinct in the country in 1952. Kuno National Park has since emerged as the primary site for the programme.
