Chandigarh, September 19, 2026: Bus services across Punjab could be affected from September 22 as around 6,500 contractual and temporary workers of Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC have announced an indefinite strike over their pending demands.
According to union leaders, the proposed strike could bring the operation of more than 2,700 buses to a halt, potentially affecting thousands of daily commuters across the state.
The Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC Contract Workers Unions said the decision to strike was taken after several rounds of discussions with the state government failed to result in concrete action on their demands.
The unions have called for the government to address the issues of contractual employees and take steps towards resolving their pending demands.
If the strike goes ahead as announced, bus services operated by the three state transport organisations could face disruptions from September 22, leading to inconvenience for passengers, particularly those dependent on public transport for daily travel.
