UK: Sikh bus driver attacked, bus hijacked; several vehicles damaged

Telford (England), September 20, 2026: A Sikh bus driver was assaulted and his bus was allegedly taken by a man who then drove dangerously through the streets of Madeley in Telford, colliding with several vehicles, police said.
The incident took place on Friday evening on Court Street in Madeley, Shropshire. According to West Mercia Police, an altercation occurred between the driver and an unidentified man, following which the man assaulted the driver and forcibly removed him from the bus.
A video of the incident was also recorded and has subsequently circulated on social media.
After taking control of the bus, the man allegedly drove it at speed and on the wrong side of the road from Park Way towards High Street. During the incident, the bus collided with several moving and parked vehicles, causing damage.
Police officers intervened and stopped the bus before arresting a man aged in his 20s. He remains in police custody while enquiries continue. He is being investigated on suspicion of robbery and dangerous driving.
Detective Sergeant Taigh Lannie said police understood that the incident would have caused concern among local residents but assured the community that officers responded quickly and arrested a suspect.
The officer appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant footage to come forward. Residents in the Court Street, Park Way and High Street areas have been asked to check CCTV, dashcam, mobile phone and doorbell-camera recordings for any footage that could assist the investigation.
The Sikh bus driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics. Police said no other serious injuries had been reported in connection with the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
