Talwandi Sabo/Bathinda (Punjab), September 21, 2026: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday said that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) forms the government in Punjab, it will dismantle the state’s drug supply network within six months and seize properties allegedly built with proceeds from drug trafficking.
Chouhan made the statement while flagging off the BJP’s fourth ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ from Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda district. The campaign is aimed at raising awareness about drug abuse and mobilising public support against drug trafficking in the state.
Before the programme, Chouhan paid obeisance at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib and offered prayers for the welfare and prosperity of Punjab and for the state to become free from drugs.
Addressing a gathering at the Dana Mandi in Talwandi Sabo, Chouhan said the BJP’s proposed action would target the entire drug supply chain and its networks. He said properties of drug smugglers would also be seized and that those found responsible would not be spared.
Chouhan said he had come to Punjab with a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and asserted that the BJP was committed to tackling the drug problem.
The Union minister also criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab over the issue. He alleged that attempts had been made to obstruct the BJP’s programme and challenged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, saying he would continue visiting Punjab.
Referring to Punjab’s history and the legacy of Guru Gobind Singh and Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Chouhan expressed concern over what he described as the state’s law-and-order situation. He said young people, particularly those aged between 18 and 27, were being affected by drugs and also claimed that police personnel were not safe.
Chouhan cited the BJP government’s actions in Uttar Pradesh as an example of what he said was the party’s approach to tackling organised crime and other security challenges.
The Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra is being conducted from multiple parts of the state and is scheduled to conclude in Jalandhar on September 30. The BJP has said the campaign focuses on the drug menace, law and order and alleged corruption in governance.
