Chandigarh (Punjab), September 21, 2026: A dispute was reportedly triggered at the Kartarpur Corridor after Border Security Force (BSF) personnel stopped Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj and members of a Sikh jatha from proceeding towards the Zero Line.
The Jathedar and the Sikh jatha had reportedly reached the Kartarpur Corridor to offer prayers and make an appeal for the reopening of the corridor for devotees wishing to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur in Pakistan.
According to members of the jatha who accompanied the Jathedar, BSF and police personnel stopped them from proceeding further towards the Zero Line. The Jathedar reportedly objected to the restriction and engaged in an argument with security officials.
As the members of the jatha reportedly began leaving the spot, Jathedar Gargajj stayed back to perform Rehras Sahib, followed by an ardas, according to the source cited in the report.
Raising strong objections to the restrictions, Gargajj said the Sikh devotees had come with the intention of offering prayers and seeking darshan of Kartarpur Sahib. He questioned the decision to stop ordinary Sikh devotees and children from proceeding towards the Zero Line.
The Jathedar also questioned why the general Sikh congregation was being stopped when, according to him, VIP visitors were allowed to proceed towards the area.
Gargajj said Guru Nanak Dev Ji lives in the hearts of Sikhs and that the spiritual bond with Kartarpur Sahib cannot be broken by physical barriers.
He urged the Central Government to understand the sentiments of the Sikh community and said devotees should be treated equally.
Gargajj further said he would take up the matter with the Central Government and the concerned departments through correspondence and seek a permanent solution to the difficulties faced by devotees at the Kartarpur Corridor.
The incident reportedly took place amid continuing demands for easier access to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur through the Kartarpur Corridor.
