Akali leader Rantej Singh Powar joins AAP, welcomed by CM Mann

Chandigarh, September 23, 2026: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) received a political boost in Jalandhar on Wednesday with prominent Shiromani Akali Dal leader Rantej Singh Powar joining the party along with his supporters.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann formally welcomed Powar into the AAP and inducted him into the party by presenting him with a siropa. Powar comes from a traditional Akali family. He is the great-grandson of Giani Shankar Singh Ji and grandson of Sardar Bir Singh Ji.
Welcoming Powar, Chief Minister Mann said people with a positive vision for Punjab were always welcome in the AAP. He said the party remained committed to development, corruption-free governance and serving the people.
Mann said several prominent personalities and leaders from different fields were joining the AAP because of what he described as the people-oriented policies and governance of the Punjab government.
He said Powar's entry into the party would strengthen the AAP organisation in Jalandhar and adjoining areas. Mann added that the party would continue working towards making Punjab a “Rangla Punjab”.
After joining the AAP, Powar thanked Chief Minister Mann and said he was impressed by the Punjab government's policies and development initiatives. He assured the party leadership that he would work with dedication and honesty to strengthen the organisation and serve the people.
