AAP accuses BJP of using Central agencies to pressure Punjab Govt ahead of elections

Chandigarh, September 23, 2026: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday accused the BJP-led Central Government of using central agencies to create pressure on Punjab Government officials ahead of elections, following Enforcement Directorate (ED) action involving the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA).
The AAP alleged that the action was politically motivated and claimed that the BJP was unable to challenge the Bhagwant Mann government through political means. The party said such actions could create an atmosphere of fear among government officials and affect the pace of development work in Punjab.
“The BJP-led Centre is trying to create fear among Punjab Government officers through central agencies because it cannot stop the Bhagwant Mann Government’s work through political means,” the party said in a statement.
The AAP specifically referred to GMADA, describing it as an important institution involved in Mohali’s planned development and revenue-generating activities. It alleged that pressure on the authority and its officers could affect ongoing development work.
The party also linked the ED action to the Punjab Government’s welfare programmes, including the Maavan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, which provides financial assistance to women. It said welfare and development schemes would continue despite what it described as pressure from central agencies.
“Punjab’s welfare schemes are supported by the people of Punjab, not by any political party sitting in Delhi,” the AAP said.
The party further alleged that similar agency action and political pressure had been witnessed before the Delhi elections. It claimed that the same approach was now being attempted in Punjab and said the state government would continue its work without being intimidated.
The AAP said government officers should be allowed to discharge their duties without fear and argued that any political challenge to the Punjab Government should be made through democratic and electoral means.
The party also said its welfare and development programmes, including schemes concerning women, families, farmers and youth, would continue. It alleged that central agency action could not stop the state government from implementing its policies.
The allegations come amid ongoing political exchanges between the AAP and BJP in Punjab. The BJP’s response to the AAP’s allegations was not included in the statement issued by the ruling party.
