Breaking: Chandigarh Police Head Constable shot dead at his residence

Chandigarh, September 25, 2026: A Chandigarh Police head constable was found dead with a gunshot wound at his residence in Sector 22 on Friday morning, prompting a police investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Head Constable Nitin, who was posted in the Accounts Branch at the Chandigarh Police Headquarters.
According to preliminary information, neighbours heard a gunshot from the residence and informed the police control room. A police team reached the spot and found Nitin lying on a bed with a gunshot injury to his head.
He was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A country-made pistol, suspected to have been used in the incident, was also recovered from the scene.
Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. She said the investigation was underway and a forensic team had also been called to examine the scene.
The SSP said the circumstances surrounding the head constable’s death were still being investigated and that it would be premature to comment on the case at this stage.
Police are examining the evidence and circumstances of the incident as part of the ongoing investigation.
