208 Anganwadi workers trained under "Nikke Kadam, Vadda Vikas" project
Ferozepur, September 30, 2026: As part of the "Nikke Kadam, Vadda Vikas" (Small Steps, Big Development) project aimed at strengthening early childhood development, a training programme was organised for 208 Anganwadi workers of Guruharsahai block in Ferozepur district.
The training was conducted under the directions of the Department of Social Security and Women & Child Development, Punjab, under the guidance of District Programme Officer Gurjit Kaur.
The ‘Nikke Kadam, Vadda Vikas’ initiative focuses on children from birth to three years, particularly the critical first 1,000 days of life. The campaign seeks to strengthen early childhood care and development through regular monitoring, parental engagement and age-appropriate developmental support.
During the training, the Anganwadi workers were given detailed information about age-appropriate developmental milestones and ways to promote learning among young children through play-based and activity-based approaches. They were also sensitised to the importance of effective communication with parents and community participation for ensuring the healthy and holistic development of children.
The workers were encouraged to effectively implement the knowledge and skills acquired during the training at their respective Anganwadi centres and ensure that its benefits reach the maximum number of children and their parents.
Under the initiative, child development report cards are used to help parents track children's physical, cognitive, emotional and other age-appropriate developmental milestones. Regular monitoring through Anganwadi workers and home visits is also aimed at identifying developmental needs at an early stage.
The programme further seeks to encourage parents, including fathers, to become active partners in their children's early learning and development through home-learning activities and other community-based initiatives.
