Fazilka, October 5: In a major crackdown on the entry of paddy from outside Punjab into Fazilka district, the Market Committee, Jalalabad, intercepted and detained a trolley carrying paddy suspected to have originated from outside the state.
The action comes amid heightened vigilance by the Fazilka district administration to ensure that only eligible local produce reaches the mandis during the ongoing procurement season.
Officials of the Market Committee took the trolley into custody and brought it to the Market Committee office at Jalalabad. The matter has been referred to the police for further necessary action.
Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu has made it clear that the administration will not permit paddy from outside Punjab to enter the district’s mandis. She said strict monitoring has been put in place across the district to check the movement and arrival of paddy.
The Deputy Commissioner said the administration is equally committed to ensuring that every single grain of paddy produced by farmers of Fazilka district is procured without unnecessary delay or inconvenience.
Government procurement agencies and concerned departments are maintaining close watch over the arrival, sale and procurement of paddy in the mandis. Officials have been directed to remain vigilant and take immediate action wherever any attempt is detected to bring paddy from outside the state into the district.
The administration has also stressed the need for close coordination among all departments and agencies to ensure that the procurement process remains transparent, smooth and farmer-friendly.
Reiterating her firm stand, the Deputy Commissioner said that there would be no room for outside-state paddy in Fazilka’s mandis, while every grain belonging to the district’s farmers would be given due consideration for procurement.
