Kataruchak accuses BJP of using CBI to pressure opposition ahead of Punjab polls
CBI action aimed at putting pressure on opposition before elections’: Kataruchak
Ferozepur, October 7, 2026: Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak on Wednesday visited Ferozepur City to review arrangements for the procurement, lifting and payment of paddy, and said that procurement was progressing smoothly across the state.
Responding to questions about the CBI action and registration of an FIR in Chandigarh, Kataruchak criticised the use of central investigating agencies against political opponents. He alleged that the BJP-led Central Government was attempting to put pressure on opposition parties ahead of elections.
Kataruchak said the Constitution did not permit investigating agencies such as the CBI and Enforcement Directorate to be used to silence the voice of political opponents. He said the Aam Aadmi Party would not be deterred by such actions and would continue to raise issues concerning the people.
The minister also alleged that the timing of such actions, with Punjab elections approaching, reflected an attempt to create political pressure. These were his political allegations against the BJP and the Centre.
Kataruchak said Punjab had a long tradition of standing up against what its political leadership considers injustice and asserted that such actions would not break the morale of the people of the state.
