Language Dept holds quiz competition to promote Punjabi language and literature
Ferozepur, October 7, 2026: Under the guidance of the Punjab Government and the directions of Director, Language Department, Punjab, Jaswant Singh Zafar, the District Language Office, Ferozepur, organised written quiz competitions for students of government, semi-government, recognised and private schools and colleges of the district at Vivekanand World Public School.
Welcoming the participating students and teachers, District Language Officer Dr Jagdeep Singh Sandhu said it was appreciable that teachers and school heads had prepared students for the competitions. He said the present era was highly competitive and students had to go through tough competition to achieve success. The objective of the Language Department was to prepare students to face such competitions and encourage their interest in Punjabi language and literature.
Dr Sandhu said the Language Department, Punjab, was organising various programmes for the promotion and propagation of language and literature. The quiz competition was part of these efforts aimed at developing students’ interest in Punjabi language and literature and encouraging their creative and aesthetic abilities.
The written competition was conducted for one hour. The students were asked 100 questions related to Punjabi language, literature, religion, prominent personalities, culture, history and geography. The question paper carried a total of 400 marks.
In the Middle Classes Category ‘A’, Krish (Government Middle School, Kamalwala Khurd) secured the first position, followed by Sukhveer Kaur (Guru Nanak Public Senior Secondary School, Shakur) in second place and Harsimran Kaur (Government High School, Wara Bhai) in third place.
In the Secondary Classes Category ‘B’, Pawandeep Kaur (Government Senior Secondary School, Bare Ke) secured first position, Jasdeep Kaur (Government High School, Mansoordeva) stood second and Sharandeep Kaur (Guru Nanak Public Senior Secondary School, Shakur) secured third position.
In the Graduation Classes Category ‘C’, Jashanpreet Kaur (Government College, Zira) secured first position, Manisha (Shaheed Udham Singh Punjab University Constituent College, Mohan Ke Hithar) stood second and Komaljot Kaur (Punjab University Constituent College, Mohkam Khan Wala) secured third position.
The winning students were honoured by the District Language Office, with cash prizes, certificates and books published by the Language Department, Punjab. The students securing first position in the respective categories will represent the district in the state-level quiz competitions.
The winners were jointly honoured DLO Dr Jagdeep Singh Sandhu, Vice Principal (Academic) Ms Shipra Narula, Vice Principal (Management) Ms Mahima Kapoor and Chief Administrator Mr Parmveer.
On the occasion, Chairman of Vivekanand World School, Ferozepur, Dr Gaurav Sagar Bhaskar, and Principal Ms Dolly Bhaskar appreciated the initiative of the Language Department and said that it was a matter of pride for the school to have been selected as the venue for the competitions.
Ms Shipra played an important role as coordinator in ensuring the smooth conduct of the competitions. Gursharanjit Singh, Ms Deepa Masih and Chetan Kumar, also extended their cooperation in organising the event.
