Sri Muktsar Sahib, October 9, 2026: In a firm demonstration of its commitment to the welfare of farmers, the Punjab Government has reiterated its resolve to procure every grain of farmers’ produce without any inconvenience. Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal assured farmers that the administration is dedicated to ensuring a smooth and transparent procurement process across the district.
Addressing the media, Panchal emphasized that the government had issued clear directives to officials involved in the procurement process to work with diligence and efficiency. “The Punjab Government is committed to standing by its farmers, who are the backbone of our economy and a cornerstone of the nation’s food security,” he stated. He further noted that any negligence or avoidable delays in the procurement process would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The Deputy Commissioner highlighted that regular review meetings are being conducted with officials to monitor key aspects of procurement. These include the arrival of paddy in mandis, timely lifting of procured stocks, availability of gunny bags, prompt payments, and the provision of essential facilities for farmers. He assured that all necessary arrangements had been made to ensure that farmers have a hassle-free experience in selling their produce.
Panchal also stressed the importance of efficient mandi management to prevent the accumulation of stocks in market yards. He directed officials to expedite the lifting process for procured paddy, which would free up space for incoming produce and maintain a seamless flow of operations. “We are committed to ensuring that every farmer who brings their harvest to the mandis is met with adequate space and timely services,” he added.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to farmers’ welfare, Panchal instructed officials to ensure that mandis are equipped with basic amenities. Clean drinking water, proper sanitation, adequate lighting, and seating arrangements are being prioritized to provide a comfortable environment for farmers during their visits. “The convenience and dignity of our farmers remain our foremost priority,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner also appealed to farmers to bring only clean and dry paddy to the mandis. This, he noted, would facilitate smoother procurement processes and help avoid unnecessary delays or inconveniences during the sale of their produce.
As of October 8, 2026, a total of 1,255 metric tonnes of paddy had arrived in mandis across Sri Muktsar Sahib district, out of which 700 metric tonnes had already been successfully procured. The district administration is closely monitoring these figures to ensure that all incoming produce is handled efficiently.
Panchal expressed his gratitude to the farmers for their cooperation and assured them that the government remains steadfast in its efforts to support them. He urged them to reach out to local authorities if they face any challenges during the procurement process.
The Deputy Commissioner concluded by reiterating Punjab’s vital role as a key contributor to India’s food security. “Our farmers work tirelessly to ensure that our nation’s granaries remain full. It is our duty as an administration to ensure that they are supported at every step,” he said.
