NHRC Member Priyank Kanoongo reviews welfare schemes; directs officials to ensure benefits reach eligible beneficiaries
Ferozepur, October 8, 2026: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) member Priyank Kanoongo held a review meeting with district administration officials in Ferozepur to assess the protection of human rights, social security measures and implementation of various government welfare schemes, stressing that their benefits must reach all eligible beneficiaries at the grassroots level.
Before the meeting, Kanoongo also visited Asal, Guruharsahai and Karma villages to assess issues concerning the public and the implementation of welfare initiatives.
During the meeting, Kanoongo said that protecting human rights was not the responsibility of any single department but a collective responsibility of the entire administration. He directed officials to ensure that every citizen received government services and welfare benefits without discrimination or harassment. He also emphasised the need to listen to public grievances sensitively and resolve them promptly.
NHRC member reviewed the progress of several central government schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Employment Generation Programme, PM Vishwakarma Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Mission Vatsalya and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. Schemes for persons with disabilities and various education-related initiatives were also discussed, and officials were given necessary directions.
Issues relating to cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, schoolchildren’s safety, the Safe School Vahan Scheme and social security were also reviewed.
Kanoongo directed the concerned departments to ensure strict compliance with applicable laws and regulations for protecting the rights of children, women, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable sections of society. He stressed that all eligible persons must receive their rightful benefits and entitlements.
Officials from various departments briefed him on public services, the implementation of welfare schemes and challenges faced in delivering benefits. Kanoongo said that the objectives of government welfare schemes could be achieved only when benefits reached every eligible beneficiary transparently and effectively. He further stressed timely action on public complaints and transparency in administrative procedures, adding that every administrative decision should aim to ensure justice, security and better access to public services.
Those present at the meeting included Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr Amandeep Kaur, Ferozepur SDM Abhishek Sharma, Zira SDM Suraj, SP Manjit Singh, District Development and Panchayat Officer Yudhvir Singh, senior district administration officials and officers from various departments.
