Fazilka’s '21 Villages - 21 Hotspots Plan' multi-pronged anti-drug drive
Fazilka, October 13, 2026: In a major initiative to combat drug abuse and create a healthier social environment in rural areas, the Fazilka district administration and police will jointly identify and address 21 drug-related hotspots across 21 villages. The decision was taken at a meeting of civil and police officials chaired by Deputy Commissioner Amritpreet Kaur Sandhu and SSP Gaganjit Singh.
The initiative will focus not only on curbing drug abuse but also on engaging youth in sports, cultural activities and other constructive pursuits. Special attention will be given to developing sports facilities in the identified villages, including parks and volleyball grounds, besides providing funds for their development.
The meeting also discussed beautification of villages through plantation drives and environment-friendly activities involving local youth. Cultural programmes will also be organised to create awareness among residents, particularly young people, about the harmful effects of drugs.
DC Amritpreet Kaur Sandhu directed the officials to identify deserted locations and dilapidated buildings in villages where drug users may be taking shelter. Block Development and Panchayat Officers (BDPOs) will be asked to take necessary steps to clean and improve such places, while further action will be taken as per rules wherever required.
SSP Gaganjit Singh suggested organising medical camps in affected villages to provide health check-ups and facilitate access to treatment and de-addiction services for people in need.
DC also directed the concerned civil departments, Sports Department and other officials to prepare a coordinated action plan. She stressed that the active participation of the administration, police and village communities would be essential for making the anti-drug campaign effective.
ADC (General) Dr Mandeep Kaur, SDMs Kanwarjit Singh and Jugraj Singh, Assistant Commissioner Harbans Singh, along with other civil and police officials, attended the meeting.
