Chandigarh Press Club condemns assault on PTC News cameraman in Amritsar

Chandigarh, October 18, 2026: The Chandigarh Press Club has condemned the alleged assault on PTC News cameraman Raj Kumar Babloo at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar while he was covering a developing news story involving a person in police custody.
According to the Press Club, Sarpreet Singh, son of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Majitha in-charge Talbir Singh Gill, allegedly abused and slapped the cameraman and took away his mobile phone.
Describing the incident as a serious concern for press freedom and journalists’ safety, the Press Club said media professionals must be able to perform their duties without fear, intimidation or violence, irrespective of the position or political connections of those involved.
The club urged the Punjab Police to conduct a fair, impartial and time-bound investigation, recover the cameraman’s mobile phone and take appropriate legal action against those found responsible.
The Chandigarh Press Club also expressed solidarity with Raj Kumar Babloo and the PTC News team, reiterating that journalists must be allowed to report freely and fearlessly.
