DSGMC denies issuing order to bar Delhi Police from using Bangla Sahib route

New Delhi, October 21, 2026: The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has denied reports claiming that it had ordered a complete closure of the passage through Gurdwara Bangla Sahib for Delhi Police personnel, clarifying that its only concern was to protect the shrine’s religious decorum and sanctity.
DSGMC President Harmeet Singh Kalka and General Secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon said no such order had been issued and accused a section of the media of misrepresenting the matter.
They said the passage adjoining Gurdwara Bangla Sahib was also used for government and security-related duties. Delhi Police beat officers regularly used the route, while convoys and security personnel accompanying the President, Prime Minister, other senior dignitaries and foreign guests also passed through it when they visited the gurdwara.
Clarifying the October 10 incident, the DSGMC leaders said the suggestion was only that police personnel should exercise caution and avoid passing through the gurdwara premises when a protest or demonstration was taking place outside the shrine.
They said interpreting this suggestion as a complete ban on police movement through the route was incorrect.
The leaders further stated that no incident had come to light during the episode involving police personnel entering the Darbar Sahib or langar hall, violating religious decorum, or engaging in pushing, shoving or violence against anyone.
However, they maintained that any action by police personnel that violated the maryada (religious code of conduct) of Gurdwara Bangla Sahib would not be tolerated.
Kalka said he had personally spoken to the Delhi Police Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) regarding the registration of an FIR against Arvind Kejriwal. During the conversation, he suggested that police personnel be instructed to avoid passing through the gurdwara premises while a protest or demonstration was underway outside.
The DSGMC leaders urged all concerned to verify facts before making statements about Gurdwara Bangla Sahib. They said protecting the shrine’s religious sanctity while ensuring the smooth functioning of security arrangements was a shared responsibility.
