Gau Sewa Commission VC reviews Cow Shelter Management, warns against negligence
Fazilka, October 22: Punjab Gau Sewa Commission Vice Chairman Keemti Bhagat held a meeting with the district and police administration, concerned departments and office-bearers of various cow shelters at the District Administrative Complex, Fazilka, to discuss measures for the better care and management of stray cattle.
Expressing concern over the deaths of cows at a cow shelter in the recent past, Bhagat directed the concerned officials to ensure adequate arrangements for the care, maintenance, medicines, fodder and straw for cattle at government-run cow shelters. He warned that any negligence or laxity in the future would not be tolerated and stressed that every possible step must be taken to prevent further deaths of these voiceless animals.
He said the Punjab government was committed to the welfare of stray cattle and urged all concerned officials to discharge their duties with dedication and sincerity. He also appreciated the efforts of the management committees of various cow shelters in providing care to cattle.
Bhagat informed that the Punjab government had waived electricity bills amounting to more than Rs 100 crore for cow shelters across the state, including one cow shelter in Fazilka district.
He urged the management committees of all cow shelters to register their institutions with the Punjab Gau Sewa Commission to avail themselves of various government schemes and facilities.
He also appealed to cow welfare volunteers across Punjab to come forward and offer voluntary services at the Commission's head office at Van Bhawan, Tower No. 5, Sixth Floor, Sector 68, SAS Nagar, Mohali, citing a shortage of staff.
