Mansa (Punjab), October 23, 2026: The standoff over the Parvinder Singh Jhota case continued in Mansa on Friday, with Jhota’s family and the Action Committee rejecting the Punjab government’s written assurance on 12 of their 14 demands and insisting on the resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and the Director General of Police (DGP).
The Action Committee said the postmortem of Jhota’s body would not be allowed until its key demands, including the resignations, were met.
The latest development followed a meeting between the Action Committee and a three-member team of senior IAS officers constituted by the state government. During the meeting, government representatives reportedly submitted a written communication accepting 12 of the committee’s 14 demands in an effort to resolve the standoff and facilitate the last rites.
However, the family and committee members subsequently held a separate meeting to discuss the government’s response and decided that accepting 12 demands was not sufficient.
Manpreet Kaur, Jhota’s wife, alleged that failures on the part of the state government and police administration had led to the situation. She maintained that the Chief Minister and DGP must resign for the family to secure justice.
Action Committee leaders reiterated that the postmortem would remain on hold until the government addressed their remaining demands.
The development has left the state government and district administration facing the challenge of resolving the impasse while maintaining law and order. The Mansa administration is continuing efforts to keep the situation peaceful.
The next course of action will depend on whether the government and the Action Committee can reach an agreement on the outstanding demands.
