Railway offers 50% discount on return trip under new round-trip Cargo Booking Scheme
Ferozepur, October 23: In a major relief for traders and logistics operators, the Railway Board has introduced a special freight concession on round-trip bookings under Joint Parcel Product–Rapid Cargo Service trains, making parcel and cargo transportation more economical and convenient.
According to Freight Marketing Circular No. 26/2026, aggregators, traders and logistics service providers who make advance bookings of parcel coaches for both directions will have to pay only 1.5 times the one-way freight for the round trip. This means the full freight will be charged for the onward journey, while the return journey will get a 50 per cent discount. The booking and payment process will also be completed in a single transaction. The scheme has been introduced as a one-year pilot project.
The Ferozepur Rail Division said the facility would particularly benefit the transportation of perishable commodities such as potatoes and kinnow to major markets across the country in an economical, fast and secure manner, directly benefiting farmers and traders.
Potato loading is mainly carried out from Jalandhar City, Kapurthala, Butari, Suranassi, Hoshiarpur, Kartarpur and Malsian Shahkot, while kinnow loading is mainly undertaken from Fazilka.
Railway has appealed to traders, chambers of commerce and cargo aggregators to make maximum use of the cost-effective, safe and time-bound cargo service offered by the Railways.
