Chandigarh, November 4, 2026: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday welcomed senior leader Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra’s resignation from the Punar Surjit Dal and his call for Panthic unity, urging leaders who had parted ways with the party to return to its fold.
Speaking to the media after a meeting of the SAD Election Manifesto Committee, party leader Balwinder Singh Bhunder said Chandumajra had taken a decision in the interest of Punjab, its people and Punjabiat.
Bhunder appealed to Panthic leaders to unite under the SAD banner and work collectively for the people of Punjab. He also urged senior leaders who had left the party in the past to rejoin their “mother party”, expressing hope that they would return in the coming days.
Earlier, the SAD Election Manifesto Committee met at the party headquarters under Bhunder’s chairmanship. Senior leaders, including Dr Daljit Singh Cheema and Janmeja Singh Sekhon, attended the meeting.
The committee is holding consultations with different sections of society to understand their demands and concerns, party leaders said.
During Wednesday’s meeting, representatives of transport unions, chowkidar unions, employee unions, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and mid-day meal workers shared their concerns and demands with the committee.
The leaders said the committee had noted the suggestions and that the legitimate demands raised during the consultations would be considered for inclusion in the party’s election manifesto.
Reiterating the SAD’s position, the leaders said an election manifesto should be treated as a legally binding document and that political parties must fulfil the promises they make after forming a government.
