Ferozepur’s Hardev Kaur Kang honored with Best Woman Dairy Farmer Award
Ferozepur, March 7, 2025: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Hardev Kaur Kang from village Fidde in Ferozepur was honoured with the prestigious 'Best Woman Dairy Farmer Award' in the North Zone category by the Indian Dairy Association (IDA) during the 51st Dairy Industry Conference held at Shri Patna Sahib from March 6-8, 2025.
The award was received on her behalf by Gurbhej Singh Tibbi, Chairman, Verka Dairy Ferozepur, in the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying Ranjit Ranjan, Union Minister of State S.P. Singh Baghel, and President of the Indian Dairy Association Dr. R.S. Sodhi.
Hardev Kaur Kang, a beacon of women empowerment, has been managing Kang Dairy Farm since 2022 following the sudden demise of her husband Sardar Gurbinder Singh Kang, who initiated the dairy business in 2009 with 50 cows. Today, the dairy farm houses over 250 cows and produces 2,400 liters of milk daily, supplied exclusively to Verka.
Despite facing personal tragedy, Hardev Kaur's dedication and leadership have not only sustained the business but significantly enhanced its production capacity. Under her management, the farm employs 12 workers and a veterinary expert to ensure the health and well-being of the livestock.
Her unwavering commitment to fulfilling her husband's dream instead of returning to the USA with her family has made her a symbol of strength and resilience. This recognition by the Indian Dairy Association celebrates her contribution to women-led dairy farming and rural entrepreneurship.
On receiving the award, Chairman Gurbhej Singh Tibbi lauded Hardev Kaur as an inspirational figure for women in agriculture, expressing gratitude to the Indian Dairy Association for acknowledging her exceptional efforts in the dairy sector.
The award highlights the growing role of women in agriculture, reaffirming the importance of women-led enterprises in rural development and socio-economic progress.
