Nawanshahr DC orders timely completion of flood protection works

Nawanshahr (Punjab), May 13, 2025 –Deputy Commissioner Ankurjeet Singh has directed all concerned departments to ensure timely completion of flood protection works and the establishment of control rooms at both district and sub-divisional levels in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season.
Chairing a meeting with senior officials at the District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the ongoing flood management measures.He emphasized that drain cleaning and desilting must be completed promptly and vulnerable embankments (dhussi bandhs) reinforced to avoid any breaches.
He instructed Sub-Divisional Magistrates to set up flood control rooms without delay and ensure that a comprehensive flood contingency plan is finalized in the coming days. He also directed the Health Department to stock essential medicines and prepare for emergency water chlorination if required.
On the evacuation front, Singh stressed the importance of having a clear plan to relocate people from flood-prone areas and ensure swift hospital access for those injured, with all necessary medical facilities in place.
Regarding infrastructure, the Deputy Commissioner instructed Mandi Board and PWD officials to identify and repair damaged roads and bridges in flood-prone areas on a priority basis. Powercom officials were directed to repair electricity poles and lines, while Punjab Roadways was told to be ready with relief transport and supplies if needed.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners Rajiv Verma and Avneet Kaur, SDMs Anamjyot Kaur, Inderpal, and Vipan Bhandari, along with other senior officials.
