New Delhi, August 8, 2025: Starting August 1, 2025, the United States has withdrawn the option for passports or visa documents to be collected through a third party. The US authorities said the decision is intended to enhance the security of travel documents and related papers.Under the new system, all Indian applicants must personally collect their passports or visa packets from the US Embassy or Consulate.
Special Rules for Applicants Under 18
Minors’ documents can only be collected by a parent or legal guardian. At the time of collection, they must provide:
- An original consent letter signed by both parents (no scanned or emailed copies allowed)
- A clear photocopy of both parents’ Indian government-issued photo IDs showing their address
- The applicant’s birth certificate or school ID card as proof of identity
Home Delivery Option Available
Applicants who cannot collect in person may request delivery to their residence or workplace for a fee of ₹1,200 per person.
Required Documents for Collection
Adults must bring:
- Original valid Indian government-issued photo ID with address
- A photocopy of the same ID
- Appointment letter copy (for faster processing)
Minors must provide:
- Birth certificate or school ID card
- Original and photocopy of parent/guardian’s Indian government-issued photo ID with address
- Original consent letter signed by both parents
- Photocopy of both parents’ Indian government-issued photo ID with address
The updated guidelines apply to all Indian applicants and are effective immediately.
