Chandigarh, April 24, 2026: The BJP’s Punjab unit has announced a “Jan Akrosh March” on April 25, with women leaders set to gherao the residence of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in protest against the Aam Aadmi Party’s stand on the Women’s Reservation Bill.
The protest march will begin from the BJP Punjab headquarters in Chandigarh and proceed towards the Chief Minister’s residence. The demonstration will be led by BJP Punjab Working State President Ashwani Sharma along with former Union Minister Preneet Kaur.
Several prominent women leaders of the party, including Jai Inder Kaur, Mohinder Kaur Josh, Mona Jaiswal, Meenu Sethi, Vandana Sangwan and Renu Thappar, are expected to participate.
In a statement, Ashwani Sharma accused AAP of hypocrisy, alleging that despite publicly supporting women’s empowerment, the party opposed the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill that seeks to ensure 33% reservation for women.
He also criticised the Congress, saying it failed to pass similar legislation during its tenure and is now taking contradictory positions.
Sharma said the protest aims to hold political parties accountable and reaffirm the BJP’s commitment to enhancing women’s representation in governance.
