Breaking: Union Cabinet clears tough Anti-Paper Leak Bill; Draft law to be tabled next week

New Delhi, July 24, 2026: The Union Cabinet on Friday approved the draft of a new bill proposing stricter punishments for those involved in examination paper leaks, paving the way for its introduction in Parliament next week.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Parliament House complex, official sources said. The proposed legislation seeks to strengthen the legal framework against paper leak cases by prescribing tougher penalties than those available under existing laws.
The Cabinet's approval comes just hours after the Prime Minister announced that the government would bring a law to crack down on examination malpractices.
In a video message released around midnight on Thursday, Modi said the government was committed to protecting the integrity of competitive examinations and would introduce the bill during the upcoming week of the Monsoon Session.
The move comes amid continuing protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, accountability for alleged examination irregularities, sweeping reforms in the education system, and ₹1 crore compensation for the families of students who allegedly died by suicide following the NEET-UG paper leak in May.
The proposed legislation is expected to be a key item on Parliament's agenda next week as the government seeks to tighten the legal regime against examination fraud.
