CA, wife jump into Bhakra canal; Bodies found in Punjab, Haryana

Kurukshetra/Rajpura, July 24, 2026: A chartered accountant and his wife allegedly died by suicide after jumping into the Bhakra Canal, with their bodies later recovered from separate locations in Punjab and Haryana.
The deceased have been identified as Rajiv Bali, a chartered accountant, and his wife Neerja Bali, residents of Zirakpur in Punjab's Mohali district.
According to police, Rajiv Bali's body was recovered from the Bhakra Canal near Rajpura in Punjab. His wife's body was later found in the Saraswati Feeder Canal near Jyotisar in Kurukshetra, Haryana, nearly 80 kilometres downstream from the site of the incident.
Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the couple's deaths. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and further legal proceedings are underway.
