Ludhiana: Second phase of free assistive device camps begins

Ludhiana (Punjab), August 5, 2026: The second phase of special social empowerment assessment camps has begun in Ludhiana district to identify eligible senior citizens and persons with disabilities for the distribution of free assistive devices, said Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, Member of the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
Bindra said the large-scale social empowerment campaign is being organised across Ludhiana’s rural and urban Assembly constituencies from July 23 to August 11 under a welfare initiative of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The first phase of the campaign, covering rural Assembly constituencies, has been completed. The second phase is now underway in urban Assembly constituencies, with camps scheduled in Khanna, Payal, Jagraon, Atam Nagar, Ludhiana East, Ludhiana North, Ludhiana West and Ludhiana Central between August 4 and August 11.
During the camps, eligible senior citizens and persons with disabilities are being identified and assessed. Physical measurements are also being taken to ensure that beneficiaries receive assistive devices suited to their individual requirements.
Following the assessment, eligible beneficiaries will be provided free assistive devices, including motorised tricycles, manual and motorised wheelchairs, hearing aids, walkers, crutches, smartphones, artificial limbs, calipers and other daily-use aids.
Bindra said the initiative aims to help senior citizens and persons with disabilities lead more independent, dignified and improved lives. He appealed to eligible residents across Ludhiana district to participate in the camps and avail themselves of the benefits under the Government of India’s welfare initiative.
The camps are being organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, through the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, District Branch, Ludhiana.
