Chandigarh, June 4, 2026: Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu will not appear in person before the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) on Thursday in connection with a case related to his alleged objectionable remarks. Instead, his legal representatives will present his case before the commission.
The NCSC had earlier issued a notice summoning Bittu to appear before it over the controversial comments that drew criticism from various quarters. The hearing was scheduled for Thursday.
Sources said that Bittu's advocates will appear before the commission and place his position on record, while also participating in the legal proceedings on his behalf.
The development comes after the Union Minister had already issued a public apology over the remarks. Despite the apology, the commission proceeded with its inquiry and sought his response in the matter.
With Bittu opting for legal representation instead of a personal appearance, the case is expected to move forward through the prescribed legal process. The issue has generated considerable political discussion in Punjab and beyond, given Bittu's role in both state and national politics.
