SAS Nagar (Punjab), October 10, 2025: District health teams conducted checks today under the campaign “Every Friday, Focus on Dengue”, inspecting various areas to curb the spread of dengue. According to Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain, teams led by District Vaccination Officer Dr. Girish Dogra, District Epidemiologist Dr. Anamika Soni, and senior medical officers focused on nurseries, vacant plots, and construction sites to detect dengue mosquito larvae and identify other potential breeding spots.
During the inspections, the teams also educated local residents about dengue symptoms, causes, prevention, and treatment. Nursing college students and ASHA workers actively participated in the drive.
Dr. Jain warned that dengue mosquito larvae can quickly develop into dangerous adult mosquitoes that pose a serious health risk. She noted that while dengue can occur year-round, cases are usually higher from July to late November, making vigilance particularly important during this period.
The Civil Surgeon added that dengue mosquitoes bite during the day and breed in clean stagnant water. Testing and treatment for dengue are available free of cost at government health facilities. For more information, residents can contact the health department helpline at 104.
Symptoms of Dengue: High fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain, bleeding from nose, mouth, or gums, vomiting, and weakness are common signs of dengue fever.
