Water Quality Around Masani Barrage Meets Standards, Says Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda
Chandigarh, March 11, 2025 – Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda stated that the quality of land in 15 villages surrounding Masani Barrage is not poor, as the water remains contained within the barrage's land boundary. Masani Barrage receives water from the Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Channel, which carries both canal water and treated wastewater from five STPs operated by the Public Health Engineering Department and Haryana Urban Development Authority. These STPs have previously faced issues with water quality.
Responding to queries in the Vidhan Sabha today, Dhanda mentioned that STPs found discharging treated wastewater below prescribed standards at Masani Barrage have been penalized. To assess the water quality, the Irrigation and Water Resources Department collected samples from around Masani Barrage. The results largely complied with the standards set by the Haryana State Pollution Control Board, indicating the absence of harsh chemicals in the water.
