Chandigarh, July 31, 2025 —
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini paid heartfelt tribute to the legendary revolutionary Shaheed Udham Singh during his visit to the martyr’s birthplace in Sunam, Punjab. Speaking at a public gathering, CM Saini praised Udham Singh’s unparalleled courage, sacrifice, and determination that continue to inspire the nation.
The Chief Minister recalled Udham Singh’s historic act of avenging the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by assassinating General Dyer on British soil after 21 years. He described this as a timeless beacon of patriotism and bravery that fuels India’s freedom legacy.
Earlier, CM Saini laid floral tributes at the Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial and planted a sapling there as a symbol of respect and remembrance. He also visited the Udham Singh Museum, where he viewed rare photographs, letters, and memorabilia associated with the revolutionary, and recorded his reflections in the visitor’s book.
Accompanied by Sardar Hardayal Singh, he met the family members of Shaheed Udham Singh, who presented a memorandum outlining their demands. Following this, the Chief Minister attended a public meeting on Sangrur Road organized by BJP leader Daaman Bajwa, receiving a warm welcome from Punjab BJP leaders and supporters.
CM Saini recounted the tragic events of the 1919 Baisakhi gathering at Jallianwala Bagh, where General Dyer ordered indiscriminate firing on unarmed civilians. He emphasized that Udham Singh’s vow to avenge this atrocity reflects the spirit of countless martyrs whose sacrifices paved the way for India’s independence.
Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to building the India envisioned by these freedom fighters, CM Saini called on all citizens to unite in realizing the martyrs’ dream of a prosperous and sovereign nation.
On the sidelines, CM Saini also criticized the Punjab government for failing to deliver on its promises, accusing it of misleading the people—similar to the experiences of Delhi’s populace—who are now awakening to the government’s realities.
The event was attended by senior Punjab BJP leaders including Ashwani Sharma, Arvind Khanna, Dayal Sodhi, Daaman Bajwa, Amritraj Chattha, and prominent members of the martyr’s family.
The Chief Minister was honored with a memento by local BJP dignitaries in recognition of his visit and tribute to the great revolutionary Shaheed Udham Singh.
