Thousands, dignitaries, politicians and celebrities bid farewell to Legendary Comedian Jaswinder Bhalla; Pics + Video Inside

Mohali (Punjab), August 23, 2025 – A wave of grief swept across Punjab today as legendary comedian Jaswinder Bhalla was cremated in Mohali. His mortal remains, adorned with flowers, were taken from his residence in a specially decorated funeral bus to the crematorium, where thousands of fans, well-wishers, dignitaries, and artists gathered to pay their final respects.
The overwhelming presence at the funeral reflected the deep love and joy Bhalla had spread through his art, with people from all walks of life uniting in sorrow.


Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond led the tributes, describing Bhalla as “an exceptional human being and a true pride of Punjab.” In his heartfelt words, Sond said, “Your performances, your words, and your unique acting style will remain alive in our memories forever. Today, wherever Punjabis are across the world, they share this grief together.”

Prominent political figures who attended included UK MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar, Akali leader Daljit Cheema, former minister Balbir Sidhu, MLA Kulwant Singh, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, Municipal Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh, Punjab Food Commission Chairman and Bhalla’s old colleague Bal Mukund Sharma, and DIG Ropar Range Harcharan Singh Bhullar.
From the world of arts and entertainment, a galaxy of stars stood in mourning: Gippy Grewal, Neeru Bajwa, Hans Raj Hans, Mohammad Sadiq, Jasbir Jassi, Binnu Dhillon, Karamjit Anmol, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Amar Noorie, Malkit Singh Rauni, BN Sharma, Jimmy Shergill, Jassi Gill, Mankirt Aulakh, Preet Harpal, Pammi Bai, Sameep Kang, Alap Sikander, Karan Galhotra, Hardeep, and many others. Eminent lyricists and writers including Shamsher Sandhu and Bhupinder Bhariwala, along with music director Sachin Ahuja, were also present to bid farewell.

Punjab Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal recalled Bhalla not only as a proud alumnus and faculty member of PAU but also as a cultural icon who gave Punjabi satire a global identity.
The funeral also saw the presence of media and cultural figures such as Babushahi.com Editor Baljit Balli and vlogger Tripta Kandhari, underlining the vast influence Bhalla had across generations.

As chants of grief and prayers filled the air, the atmosphere turned into one of collective mourning. The tears of fans and the bowed heads of celebrities testified to Bhalla’s unmatched bond with his audience.
Though Jaswinder Bhalla has left this world, his laughter, satire, and unforgettable characters—especially the iconic Chacha Chatar Singh—will continue to live in the hearts of millions, keeping his legacy immortal for generations to come.
