Chandigarh, August 28, 2025: In a significant relief for Chandigarh, the Ministry of Home Affairs has approved a special grant of ₹125 crore for the city’s Municipal Corporation. The grant, sanctioned under Grant No. 53—Chandigarh by order dated August 27, 2025, is aimed at revitalizing essential civic services and restarting development work stalled due to financial constraints.
With the new funds, the Municipal Corporation can now ensure uninterrupted sanitation, water supply, waste management, and street lighting throughout the city. Key projects such as the carpeting and maintenance of V4, V5, and V6 roads will resume, and development initiatives delayed by lack of funds will gain momentum.
Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla welcomed the decision, describing it as a major relief for Chandigarh’s residents. She expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, BJP Chandigarh President Jatinder Malhotra, and senior officers for their strong support and coordination.
This approval highlights successful cooperation between the Central Government and the BJP-led Municipal Corporation in securing vital resources for Chandigarh’s growth. It also demonstrates a firm commitment to improving urban infrastructure and public welfare.
