Ludhiana (Punjab), September 15, 2025: Punjabi University, Patiala Vice Chancellor Dr. Jagdeep Singh has extended heartfelt thanks to Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, National Member (NISD) and Special Invitee (NCCDR) in the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.
He said that through the efforts of Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has sanctioned ₹70 crore for the construction of OBC boys’ and girls’ hostels at Punjabi University, Patiala. The Central Government has also released the first installment of ₹11.5 crore towards the construction of these hostels.
Dr. Jagdeep Singh stated that Punjabi University, which has been struggling with a shortage of funds, has now been allotted nearly ₹70 crore for the construction of OBC boys’ and girls’ hostels.
However, the project earlier faced hurdles due to the university’s lack of funds. Bindra informed that the Ministry has already released ₹11.5 crore as the first installment so that the construction work can begin soon.
Dr. Jagdeep Singh also requested Bindra to reduce the university’s share in these grants. For the boys’ hostel, the university’s contribution towards construction costs is 40%, while for the girls’ hostel it is only 10%. The Vice Chancellor appealed to the concerned authorities to reduce the university’s contribution for the boys’ hostel to 10%.
Bindra assured that he would certainly discuss this matter with senior officials and the Hon’ble Minister. He further said that every possible effort will be made to build a better future for the youth.
