Chandigarh, June 5, 2026 – On World Environment Day, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Satnam Singh Sandhu participated in a plantation drive - organized by BJP Shaheed Bhagat Singh District –during which 150 saplings were planted by about 40 volunteers at the park in Sector 7 Chandigarh under the nation-wide ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (a tree in mother’s name) campaign.
Speaking on occasion, MP Satnam Singh Sandhu said, “On the historic occasion of completing 12 years of Modi Government's service to the nation, Prime Minister Ji's message today has made it clear that India is showing the world the path to sustainable development through 'Mission LiFE' by striking a balance between 'Ecology' (Environment) and 'Economy' (Economy),”.

Sandhu further said, “As mother´s love is above all human relations, so by planting a tree in our mother’s name, we are not only honouring our mother but also the mother earth. To make this important initiative successful and show determination towards environmental conservation, over 4.25 lakh saplings will be planted in Chandigarh this year. Last year, more than 5.64 lakh plants were planted in Chandigarh and I am happy that 79% of them, which were planted, have survived, this is a very good rate. Our main goal is to further strengthen the 41% green cover of Chandigarh and give a safe, pollution-free future to the coming generations. Let us be a part of this mass movement to respect our mother and protect Mother Earth and make Chandigarh the greenest city in the country,”.
“Having started from here, we will also take this campaign throughout Punjab. Tomorrow in Punjab too, we will plant trees under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. I want to request all Punjabis and all the people of India to join this campaign which is connected to the feelings of each one of us,” he added.
Besides MP Satnam Singh Sandhu, the plantation drive was joined by BJP District President, Dilip Kumar (Sonu), District in-charge Naresh Panchal, Councilor Maheshinder Singh Sidhu, Mandal President Babu Chaudhary, District Vice-President, Virendra Thakur and Executive Members of Environment Society, Chandni Sharma and Rajesh Sharma.
