Chandigarh, June 12, 2026: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially declared Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann as its chief ministerial candidate for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
The announcement was made by AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal while addressing a roadshow in Bathinda on Friday. Kejriwal urged party workers and supporters to unite behind Mann and work towards securing his re-election as Chief Minister.
During his address, Kejriwal also made a significant political claim, stating that he had received information suggesting that the Punjab Assembly elections could be held in November instead of February, leaving only a few months for preparations.
“Everyone should now focus on ensuring that Bhagwant Mann becomes the Chief Minister of Punjab once again,” Kejriwal said.
Praising Mann's leadership, Kejriwal described him as one of the most honest political leaders Punjab has seen in decades. He claimed that while previous governments and leaders in the state had faced allegations of corruption or misuse of public funds, no such accusations had been levelled against Mann, his family members, or his ministers.
Launching a political attack on the BJP-led Central Government, Kejriwal said that despite the actions of central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against opposition leaders across the country, no allegations of financial irregularities had surfaced against the Punjab Chief Minister.
“If there had been even a minor corruption allegation against Bhagwant Mann, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would not have spared him,” Kejriwal remarked.
The AAP chief's announcement is expected to set the tone for the party's campaign strategy as it gears up for the next Assembly elections in Punjab.
