Punjab: State Transport Commissioner conducts Scientific Driving Training for VVIP drivers
Around 200 drivers trained in modern safety and risk management

Chandigarh, June 12, 2026: The Office of the State Transport Commissioner, Punjab, organised a special training camp for approximately 200 Transport Department drivers deployed with the Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers, and other VIPs.
Held at the Sector 17 Head Office, the initiative aimed to upgrade traditional driving habits into scientifically backed, defensive road safety skills. Under the core theme, “From Skill-Based Driving to Scientific Knowledge and From Confidence to Alertness & Efficiency,” the program focused on preparing drivers for high-pressure and emergency situations.
The curriculum emphasized defensive driving to transition mindsets toward proactive risk management, quick identification of road hazards, and immediate emergency response protocols.
Additionally, specialized sessions targeted driver psychology and behavioral adjustments to significantly reduce accidents caused by human error.
Highlighting the importance of the program, State Transport Commissioner Parneet Shergill said, "This training is a significant step toward making our drivers not just technically sound, but also mentally alert and capable of handling unexpected field situations."
The program was conducted under the guidance of Administrative Secretary Varun Roojam, managed by RTA Secretary Ranpreet Singh, and featured expert sessions by National Awardee Harpreet Singh from the NGO 'Zero Accident’ .
