In honor of World Bicycle Day, the Cycling Association of Punjab hosted the Ashmita Khelo India Women League alongside a cycle rally near Government College, Sri Muktsar Sahib.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from female cyclists across different age groups, with the primary goal of promoting cycling amongst women and providing a national-level platform for them to showcase their talents.
The competition featured three categories with commendable performances from the participants:
Sub-Junior category**: Navdeep Kaur claimed first place, followed by Rajveer Kaur in second and Chashmeet Kaur in third.
Junior category**: Rupinder Kaur emerged as the winner, with Namastika taking the second spot and Neeraj Rani securing third place.
Elite category**: Jaskarandeep Kaur delivered a stellar performance to win first place, while Kanchan and Prince Deep secured second and third positions, respectively.
Jagdeep Singh Kahlon, General Secretary of the Cycling Association of Punjab, emphasized during his address that the association has been unwavering in its efforts to promote cycling across the state.
Highlighting the importance of programs like the Ashmita Khelo India Women League, he stated that such initiatives provide a remarkable platform for women athletes to aspire for greater achievements. He expressed optimism about creating opportunities for young girls across Punjab to engage in sports and build successful careers.
Mr. Kahlon also underscored the significance of cycling as a sport that not only fosters physical fitness but contributes to environmental preservation. Events like these, he added, play a vital role in encouraging young individuals to embrace sports as part of their lives.
B.S. Sudan, Treasurer of the Cycling Association of Punjab, extended heartfelt gratitude to Pankaj Singh, President of the Cycling Federation of India, Onkar Singh, Chairman, Maninderpal Singh, Secretary General, and Charanjit Singh, President of the Cycling Association of Punjab. He commended their collective efforts in bringing this inspirational event to Punjab.
The gathering was graced by several notable individuals, including Opinder Deol, B.S. Brar, Bikram Singh Brar, Navdeep Singh Brar, Raman Deep Singh, Bhupinder Kumar, Gurmeet Singh, Sony Ram, Madam Deepi, Madam Raman Deep Kaur, Madam Neeti, Hockey Coach Jatinder Singh, and Amarjit Singh Dhillon, along with a large number of sports enthusiasts who came to witness the event.
The winners were formally honored in a ceremony at the conclusion of the event. Organizers assured an ongoing commitment to hosting similar sporting events in the future to foster talent and encourage participation across all levels.
