Amritsar (Punjab), June 28, 2026: Punjab Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa on Sunday said that all Congress MLAs, including both Sikh and non-Sikh legislators, would appear before Sri Akal Takht Sahib in compliance with the directives issued by the Jathedar.
Speaking in Amritsar, Bajwa said Punjab is “the land of Gurus, Pirs, Prophets and warriors” and has always upheld the message of universal harmony.
“Regarding the majority of our Assembly MLAs whom the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib has summoned, all our MLAs—the majority, including both Sikh and non-Sikh members—will go there. We will duly comply with the directives and present ourselves before the authority,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Bajwa joined senior Congress leaders and party workers in Amritsar to protest against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, accusing him of continuing to defy the authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
In a post on X, Bajwa said no individual, irrespective of the office they hold, is above the directives of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. He asserted that respect for the Sikh temporal institution is “non-negotiable” and said the Congress would continue to raise its voice to protect its dignity, sanctity and authority against any attempt to undermine it.
