Amritsar (Punjab), June 28, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday inaugurated the newly constructed Sultanwind Flyover at the junction of Sultanwind Bypass and Sultanwind Link Road in Amritsar, saying the project was completed by saving ₹11.52 crore of public money through a transparent tendering process.
The flyover, built to ease traffic congestion on the busy Tarn Taran Road corridor, is expected to improve connectivity for commuters and the more than two lakh devotees who visit Sri Amritsar Sahib and other religious sites in the city every day.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the project, originally approved at ₹34.20 crore, was completed at a cost of ₹22.68 crore, resulting in substantial savings to the state exchequer. The project includes a 725-metre-long, 14-metre-wide flyover with a total length of 985 metres, including approach roads and service lanes on both sides. He added that rainwater harvesting wells and RCC drains have also been incorporated to make the project environmentally sustainable.
Mann said the state government is leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve project monitoring and reduce wastage of public funds. He added that contractors constructing more than 43,000 kilometres of roads in Punjab are now responsible for maintaining them for five years.
Highlighting other government initiatives, the Chief Minister said 3,100 sports grounds, 3,000 village gyms and 400 new Aam Aadmi Clinics will be ready for public use by July 15. He also claimed that canal water usage for irrigation has increased from 22 per cent to over 80 per cent, reducing dependence on groundwater.
Mann said the government's focus remains on infrastructure development, education, healthcare and employment, noting that over 68,000 government jobs have been provided without corruption and that more than 90 per cent of households in Punjab are receiving free electricity.
Targeting the Opposition, the Chief Minister alleged that Congress, the Shiromani Akali Dal and the BJP were attempting to malign him by circulating fake videos after failing to challenge the government's development agenda.
Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO and several other dignitaries were present at the inauguration.
