Suspected illegal cattle slaughter unit unearthed; Police seize evidence, launch Investigation
Ferozepur, July 26, 2026: Police have launched an investigation after members of a local cow protection organisation alleged that they uncovered a suspected illegal cattle slaughter and meat processing unit near Nizam Din Basti in Ferozepur.
Harbhajan Singh, Chief Sevadar of Shri Krishna Gau Dham, said his team had been monitoring the premises for nearly 15 days following repeated complaints. Acting on specific information, they raided the site and claimed to have found several live and injured cows, seven of which were rescued.
Harbhajan Singh alleged that the occupants of the premises attacked him and his associates with sharp-edged weapons in an attempt to stop them from exposing the alleged illegal activity. He said the police were immediately informed, but the suspects fled before the police team reached the spot.
According to him, the premises contained carcasses of cattle, severed cow limbs, large wooden chopping blocks allegedly used for slaughtering animals, washing machines suspected to have been used for cleaning meat, refrigerators containing suspected beef, animal hides and other materials believed to be connected with the operation. The Animal Husbandry Department has also been informed to inspect the site and collect samples for examination.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhwinder Singh said police teams reached the spot immediately after receiving the information and initiated an investigation. He said various materials and equipment found at the premises had been taken into police custody as evidence. "The investigation is in progress, and legal action will be taken strictly in accordance with the law after examining the evidence and other findings," he added.
Police said further action would be taken after the completion of forensic analysis, veterinary inspection and the ongoing investigation. No arrests had been officially announced till the filing of the report.
