CPDL invests Rs 1 crore in underground cable project to improve power supply in Shastri Nagar, Kishangarh

Chandigarh, August 3, 2026: Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) has commissioned a 3.5-km-long, 11 kV underground XLPE cable project at an investment of Rs 1 crore to improve the reliability of electricity supply in Shastri Nagar, parts of Kishangarh and nearby farmhouses.
The underground cable has been laid from the BBMB Grid Substation in Industrial Area, Phase I, to the Railway Light Point and further up to the Kishangarh small roundabout.
The project replaces the existing overhead 11 kV Kalka Feeder, which passed through a forest area while crossing a railway bridge and a choe. The overhead line was vulnerable to faults caused by tree branches coming into contact with the conductors, resulting in frequent power outages during storms and the monsoon season.
CPDL said the replacement of the overhead network with an underground cable system had eliminated a major source of recurring faults and strengthened the resilience of the power distribution network in the area. The project is expected to ensure a more reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
CPDL Chief Executive Officer Brajesh Kumar said the project was part of the company’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Chandigarh’s power distribution infrastructure and improve supply reliability for consumers.
“By replacing vulnerable overhead lines with underground cables, we are reducing weather-related outages and creating a stronger and safer electricity network,” he said.
CPDL said it would continue investing in infrastructure upgrades to improve service quality, enhance consumer satisfaction and provide a safe, reliable and uninterrupted power supply across Chandigarh.
